There is one plant that has been used for centuries for body care. It was used for healing wounds in the ancient times, and today it is one of the most common ingredients, used by pharmaceutical companies for various kinds of drugs and cosmetics. The best thing is that this plant probably already is in your home or your garden. I’m talking about Aloe Vera. The pointy-leave plant is easy to grow in any home and doesn’t need to much care. It has an everlasting green color and as I already mentioned is the basis of a million dollar worth industry.
What makes Aloe such a treasure is its gooey soft inside. The gel is made up of approximately 96% water, protein, which contains 18 of the 20 amino acids found in our body and all sorts of vitamins like A,B,C and E. This makes aloe one of the best ingredients when you are trying to lose weight. But that’s not all. Aloe has many benefits to our bodies. Here are several of them
Aloe Vera for Dry Skin
As I’ve mentioned before Aloe is the main ingredient in many cosmetic companies, which focus on skin products. This is due to the fact that your skin needs nutrition of it’s own, and usually the food you eat is not quite enough to feed your muscles, give you energy and take care of your skin. This is where natural creams come in. You can find them in the cosmetic stores and on the shelves in big stores, but by far the best thing you can do is to make them yourself. Take some aloe vera and mix it with a teaspoon of honey, a the same amount of milk a few drops of rose water and a pinch of turmeric. Blend the mix into a paste and when it’s ready you can apply it on your skin gently. After 20 minutes or so raisin with lukewarm water. Your skin will immediately get this starlike shine you only see in the movies.
Aloe Vera for Acne
Acne is the worst thing that could happen to a teenage girl. She sees this as the end of her social life. Ass adults we already know that there are far worst things that can happen than some acne, but still whenever we get some tiny red dot, or some small imperfection on our skins we feel self conscious. Thank God there is a very easy solution to this problem. Just take some aloe vera gel from your plant, blend it with some walnuts and some honey. The healing properties of aloe, combined with the anti-oxidants from the honey will leave you with smooth and clear skin, you can be proud of.
Aloe for Hair Loss
Aloe has been known for its marvelous powers since ancient times. People didn’t understand why, but they used it to heal their wounds, and to make their hair look better. Today we know that Aloe vera contains something called proteolytic enzymes, which repairs dead skin cells. Used on your scalp it may even lead to reducing hair loss. Furthermore it promotes hair growth and prevents itching on the scalp. There are thousands of shampoos on the market, but let’s be honest. There is nothing better than homemade all natural hair care products.
Making a homemade aloe vera shampoo is a bit harder than the skincare products. You will need 2 cups of distilled water, 2 ounces of dried herbs like nettle burdock, rosemary or calendula, 6 ounces of liquid castile soap, 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel, half teaspoon jojoba oil and 40 to 50 drops from essential oils like rosemary, myrrh or peppermint.
Add the herbs to the boiling distilled water and let it steep for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove the mix from the heat and strain the spent herbs from the liquid. Mix the castile soap with the herbal water slowly and don’t forget to mix it gently while you pour the soap inside the water. Your next step is to add the aloe vera gel, jojoba and the essential oils. Mix them well. Pour the ready mix in a plastic squeeze bottle and it’s ready for use. Before you use it though, always shake the bottle first. Use it no more than 3 times a week.
